Wednesday nights at 8:00, pm. (ET/PT), "The Sentinel" tells the story of police Detective James Ellison (as played by actor Richard Burgi, "One West Waikiki"), the lone survivor of a Special Forces helicopter crash in Peru who, after surviving for 18-months in the hostile jungle, comes to find that he has developed incredibly heightened sensory powers. With the aide of Blair Sandburg (Garrett Maggert), an offbeat expert in anthropology and precivilized cultures, Ellison learns how to use these new sensory abilities to help solve crimes. Produced by Paramount Television.
Following this series at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) is "Swift Justice," a new drama from producer Dick Wolf. Set in New York City, the series deals with ex-cop Matt Swift (James McCaffrey), a man who works outside the system on cases too hot for the standard avenues of justice. He's aided in this by Police Detective Wendell Sims (Gary Dourdan), who sends Swift those cases that he knows the police won't handle as effectively. Produced by Universal.
"We're going to start off our Wednesday nights big with the `Blockbuster Entertainment Awards' and we'll keep up the heat with these two new action dramas," commented Mike Sullivan, president of entertainment, UPN. "We're looking forward to the pulse-pounding action delivered by the team of Bilson and Demeo, and are thrilled to have the talent of Dick Wolf behind one of our projects. We couldn't have asked for better programming for our expansion to a third night."
UPN, which premiered on Monday, January 16, 1995, currently offers two nights of original primetime programming Monday and Tuesday evenings (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT).
