UPN Announces 1995-96 Primetime Schedule
and Addition of Third Night of Programming

New York, New York, May 17, 1995 . . . Three new drama series will join UPN's primetime schedule for the 1995-96 season, it was announced today by Michael Sullivan, UPN's president of entertainment. The network's Fall season will premiere on MONDAY, AUGUST 28.

In addition, Lucie Salhany, UPN's President and CEO, announced today that UPN will broadcast a third night of primetime programming beginning Wednesdays in March 1996.

Following are descriptions of UPN's new series:

• "Nowhere Man" (Mondays, 9:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) is a one-hour drama that follows the terrifying story of documentary photographer Thomas Veil, who in the course of an evening, seemingly has his whole existence erased. Someone has coerced his wife, mother and closest friends into cooperating in a clandestine master plan to annul any trace of his life, leaving Veil no option but to begin a desperate, dangerous quest to find out how, why, and most importantly, who. Bruce Greenwood ("Exotica," "Hardball") stars. Larry Hertzog ("seaquest DSV") is Executive Producer. "Nowhere Man" is a production of Touchstone Television.

• "Deadly Games" (Tuesdays, 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. ET/PT) is a one-hour action/adventure series that tells the story of a young scientist who invents an innocent video game, and then watches in horror as the game's characters come to life during a freak lab accident. Starring Cynthia Gibb ("Gypsy," "Madman of the People,") Christopher Lloyd ("Back to the Future," "Taxi"), James Calvert ("Beverly Hills, 90210"), and Stephen T. Kay ("General Hospital"), "Deadly Games," a Viacom production, is executive produced by Paul Bernbaum ("21 Jump Street," "Rent-A-Kid") and Leonard Nimoy.

• "Live Shot" (Tuesdays, 9:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) is a fast-paced, one-hour drama focusing on the people and personalities inside the most frenzied, dog-eat-dog work environment of all: the television newsroom. The series' ensemble cast includes David Birney ("St. Elsewhere"), Wanda De Jesus ("Santa Barbara"), Hill Harper ("Zooman"), Spencer Klein ("Joe's Life"), Cheryl Pollak ("Melrose Place"), Rebecca Staab ("Trade Winds"), Michael Watson ("General Hospital"), and Jeff Yagher ("Room For Two"). Created and executive produced by Dan Guntzelman and Steve Marshall ("WKRP in Cincinnati") and executive produced by Scott Brazil ("Hill Street Blues"). "Live Shot" is produced by Rysher Entertainment.

These new programs will join "Star Trek: Voyager," which anchors UPN's primetime line-up Mondays from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Continuing the tradition of excellence that has spanned nearly three decades, "Star Trek: Voyager" stars Kate Mulgrew, Robert Beltran, Roxann Biggs-Dawson, Jennifer Lien, Robert Duncan McNeill, Robert Picardo, Tim Russ and Garreft Wang. The series is executive produced by Rick Berman, Michael Piller and Jeri Taylor, and is a Paramount Network Television production.

In making the scheduling announcement, Mr. Sullivan said, "This programming represents the first fruits of our labors. We set out to develop series that would be like none other on television, and feel that with these three quality programs -- from some of the industry's most respected producers -- we've hit our mark." He continued, "Combined with the success of 'Star Trek: Voyager,' we believe these will further strengthen UPN's aggressive strategy of providing competitive counter-programming."

Regarding the expansion of the network to a third night, Ms. Salhany commented, "We've been committed from the start to expanding our schedule as soon as we had the quality product to warrant such growth. Michael Sullivan and his team have put together an impressive development slate, and our affiliates fully welcome and support this move to Wednesday night."

Programming to be announced

Some of the projects in development include:

• "A Perfect Life," a half-hour comedy focusing on twentysomething hotshot Dylan Forrester, a man who seems to have it all, until the day he loses his job, has his trendy car stolen and discovers that his friends have been secretly living in his apartment while he was busy climbing the corporate ladder. When it's pulled out from under him, Dylan has no choice but to try and regain his affluent lifestyle, while rounding up his spare housekeys. "A Perfect Life" stars Tim Conlon ("Wild Oats"), and is created and executive produced by Sheldon Bull ("Coach") through Universal Television.

• "Family Values" is a half-hour comedic look at the Huck family, a group of trailer-park dwellers who make their way through life by manipulating the system rather than working within it. Susan Ruttan ("L.A. Law") and Jenna Von Oy ("Blossom") headline the ensemble cast. "Family Values" is a Touchstone Television production, and is executive produced by Ehrich Van Lowe ("Where I Live") and Dale McCraven ("Mork & Mindy"), and is produced by Lance Reynolds ("Bread").

• "L.A. Confidential," a one-hour drama portraying the steamy side of Hollywood as seen through the eyes of private detective Stan Navarro (Emmy Award-winning actor Edward James Olmos), who heads-up an elite detective agency staffed with talented misfits who couldn't fit into the conventional world of law enforcement. This agency caters to the whims of the beautiful (and not so beautiful) people in Tinseltown. Created and executive produced by Anthony Yerkovich ("Miami Vice"), "L. A. Confidential" is produced by Paramount Network Television.

• "Star Command" is a one-hour adventure series set in the 22nd century where Earthlings have explored, colonized and mined the vast reaches of the solar system to help sustain an overpopulated Earth. Star Command, a team of recently graduated military cadets, find itself alone on the front lines of an interstellar war when a planet populated by colonists originally from Earth enters into a bitter conflict over resources and territory. "Star Command" is written and executive produced by Melinda M. Snodgrass and is from High Command Productions Ltd.

Currently programming two nights of primetime programming, UPN reaches more than 85% of all U.S. television viewing households. In March 1996, the network will begin broadcasting a third evening of primetime programming. In addition, UPN broadcasts a Saturday afternoon movie from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. and, beginning in September, will broadcast a Sunday morning kids block from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
