- How did Gentleman Jim get his nickname?
After a bank robbery, Jim was riding away, when a woman
with her baby started to cross the street. Through no
intention on his part, his horse pulled up just long
enough for the woman to cross the street. Subsequently
the tale was exaggerated to say that he'd helped the lady
across the street and then that he had given her the
stolen money for her child's education. The nickname was
hung on him and thereafter he did his best to live up to it.
