As Tonia, Kim Wayans stars as Marion Hill's (LL Cool J) friend and business partner, in In the House, a comedy series produced by Quincy Jones/David Salzman Entertainment in association with NBC Studios for broadcast on UPN.
Ever since Wayans was a little girl growing up in the Chelsea section of New York, she wanted to be an actress. Seven years ago, she left New York to come to Los Angeles and make her dream a reality. Now, after starring for four seasons, from 1990-94, on the comedy variety series In Living Color, Wayans has established herself as a comedic actress with a repertoire that includes parodies of celebrities as diverse as Grace Jones, Oprah Winfrey and Whitney Houston, as well as popular original characters such as Benita Butrell and Lil' Magic.
Her first break in entertainment came when she was booked to do stand-up comedy at The Improv clubs in Santa Monica and Hollywood. Since then, Wayans has made several television appearances, including a guest-starring role on China Beach and a recurring role on A Different World. Most recently, Wayans starred in the art film "Talking About Sex," and had a cameo in the feature film "Floundering." Her other recent film credits include directed by her brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, and "Critics Choice."
Part of a unique family of comedians, Wayans has enjoyed working with her brothers, film and television stars Keenen, Damon, Marlon and Shawn. She starred with all of them on In Living Color, and has worked with them in various combinations in such motion pictures as "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," "Hollywood Shuffle," "Don't Be A Menace To Society While Drinking Your Juice in the `Hood," and "Low Down Dirty Shame."
In addition to stand-up comedy and acting, Wayans' talents include singing and writing.
In the House is taped before a studio audience in Hollywood, California and is a production of Quincy Jones/David Salzman Entertainment in association with NBC Studios for broadcast on UPN.
