Dann Florek

as President Abraham Lincoln

Dann Florek stars as President Abraham Lincoln in "The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer," UPN's new half-hour comedy that takes place in an alternate universe version of Abraham Lincoln's Civil War-era White House.

Florek's enjoying his role as Lincoln. "It's interesting, because he's really one of the most revered figures in American history, and I'm playing him most irreverently," says Florek. "We're doing a lighthearted, fun comedy that takes place in the 19th century. It's silly, with lots of contemporary references, and we're playing fast and loose with sacred ground."

Florek was raised in Flat Rock, Michigan, and entered Eastern Michigan University as a math and physics major, but left with a newfound interest in drama. "I really thought I was going to be a math/physics person, but I was in choir, and they offered me a scholarship in drama. I thought, hey, maybe it'll be more fun than synthetic projective geometry."

Florek moved to New York where he did years of theater including "A Midsummer Night's Dream"; "Loves' Labors Lost"; "Strange Snow"; and "Death of a Salesman."

He then headed west to San Diego in the 1970s, where he participated in many La Jolla Playhouse productions and eventually got enough work in Los Angeles to move there.

Florek had regular and recurring roles in television shows such as "LA Law"; "Law & Order"; "Bullpen"; "Smart Guy"; and "From the Earth to The Moon." He had guest-starring roles in "The Practice"; "The Pretender"; "Roseanne"; "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch"; and "NYPD Blue." He has also appeared in theatrical releases including "Sweet Liberty"; "Angel Heart"; "The Flintstones"; and "Hard Rain."

A guitarist before he took up acting, Florek collects music memorabilia. A golfer, he also collects antique clubs.

He and his wife Karen, an artist, live in Los Angeles with their two dogs, Maddie and Little Dog.
