Rachel Blanchard stars as the popular, privileged and irrepressibly cheerful Beverly Hills teenager, Cher, the main character in UPN's half-hour filmed comedy series "Clueless." The series is based on the blockbuster motion picture of the same name.
A newcomer to Hollywood, Blanchard landed the coveted role of Cher after being handpicked from among the hundreds who auditioned. A native of Toronto, Blanchard's career was launched with a part in a McDonald's commercial. She is best known for her role in the Nickelodeon anthology series "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" She was also a series regular in the syndicated "War of the Worlds" and the British series "Chriss Cross."
Blanchard's other television credits include the telefilm "Alex: The Life of a Child" and several Canadian productions including "The Campbells"; "Katts and Dog"; "Glory Enough for All"; "Two for Joy"; and "On My Own." She also starred in the Canadian film "Young Ivanhoe."
Blanchard stars in the upcoming feature film "Carrie II," a sequel to the cult classic "Carrie."
A decided contrast to her character, Blanchard favors sports and hiking. She is single and resides in Toronto when not filming in Los Angeles.
