Matthew Settle stars as Rufus Humphrey, father of Dan and Jenny and a former rocker turned gallery owner who is currently engaged to Lily van der Woodsen, in the stylish drama Gossip Girl.
Settle will next star in the feature ExTerminators, with Jennifer Coolidge and Heather Graham. Past film credits include Callie Khouri's film adaptation of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, in which he starred opposite Ashley Judd; Jonathan Mostow's WWII submarine drama, U-571; the thriller Beneath; and The Celestine Prophecy, which was adapted from the best-selling book. Other film credits include Rancid, Until the Night, Attraction, The In Crowd and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
On the small screen, Settle starred as lead character Jacob Wheeler in Into the West, the six-week television event from executive producer Steven Spielberg that was nominated for 16 Emmy(r) Awards. Settle is also known for his unforgettable role as Captain Ronald Speirs in the Golden Globe and Emmy(r) Award-winning miniseries Band of Brothers and for a critically lauded portrayal of Warren Beatty in Peter Bogdanovich's The Mystery of Natalie Wood. He also appeared in Lansky, in which he played a young Bugsy Siegel, and in a recurring role on Brothers & Sisters. Other series credits include roles on ER and The Practice, and guest appearances on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and CSI: Miami.
Born in North Carolina, Settle moved to New York City at age 18 to pursue acting. Awarded a three-year scholarship with renowned acting teacher William Esper, Settle soon landed his first role in Louis L'Amour's Shaughnessy.
