BURBANK, Calif. -- April 15, 2003 -- The beat goes on for NBC's "American Dreams"
(Sundays, 8-9 p.m. ET) as the nostalgic drama continues its tradition of melding contemporary music stars with classic 1960s models when Elektra recording artists,
Third Eye Blind portray the legendary Kinks in an episode for broadcast on Sunday, May 4 (8-9 p.m. ET).
In 1964, the Kinks were part of the British Invasion that influenced American music and Third Eye Blind will pay homage to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group by performing their hit song "All Day and All of the Night." Lead singer Stephan Jenkins will portray front man Ray Davies of the Kinks.
In the episode titled "Down the Shore," the Pryor family hits Wildwood, New Jersey for their summer vacation and Meg and Roxanne dance on the beach at the "Bandstand Hop" where the Kinks perform.
San Francisco based Third Eye Blind consist of front man Jenkins, guitarist Tony Fredianelli, bassist Arion Salazar and drummer Brad Hargreaves. 3EB exploded on the scene in 1997 when their self-titled debut album produced the hits "How's It Going to Be," "Graduate" "Jumper" and "Semi-Charmed Life" and went on to sell over 6 million records. That same year the band reached rock 'n' roll nirvana when they were invited to play select dates on both the Rolling Stones and U2 tours.
They followed up in late 1999 with the highly anticipated "Blue," featuring the hit "Never Let You Go" which has sold over 2 million records. Their next album, titled "Out of the Vein," will be released on May 13 and features their current hit single "Blinded."
The era's celebrated music provides a backdrop for other current artists as well, including recent Grammy- winners Usher as Motown legend Marvin Gaye and Michelle Branch as pop princess Lesley Gore. Likewise, Grammy-winners Ashanti embodied Dionne Warwick, India.Arie gave voice to activist singer Nina Simone, LeAnn Rimes became the legendary Connie Francis, Duncan Sheik portrayed Bobby Darin and Vivian Green was seen as Brenda Holloway in the recent April 6 episode.
R&B artists B2K with Marques Houston will portray The Temptations in the April 27 episode.
The evocative drama is set against the memorable, upbeat sounds of the 1960s. It depicts a more innocent America as seen through the youthful Pryor family of Philadelphia as they brace for cultural turbulence ahead that still resonates today.
